A few things to keep in mind to make sure your furnace is in top shape and ready for cold weather.

  1. Annual Inspection by a licensed professional

    • As your furnace ages, make sure that your technician is thorough in checking for Carbon Monoxide or other gases that may be leaking into your home.

      • The gas control valves on furnaces have seals that may begin to leak gas over time.

      • Cracks in a heat exchanger may result in furnaces over heating due to lack of airflow or a failing limit switch.

  2. Replace filters annually. If you have a furnace and air conditioner combo, replace the filters semiannually.

  3. Ensure air vents are open and unobstructed. Closing air registers make your furnace work harder and may result in premature failure of your furnace due to overheating.
